A Plane Family is a Family of 4, based in Auburn, Washington. Mama Pilot and Papa Pilot met in California working for a 135 Charter company. We now live in the Seattle area where Papa pilot and Mama pilot both have careers in aviation. Mama pilot is a Multi-engine, Instrument, Commercial Rated pilot with about 550 hours and Papa Pilot is an ATP rated pilot with over 5000 hours total time in platforms from F-16s to Challengers, and many GA aircraft.

We purchased a 1980 Beech Bonanza in the Summer 2014 because our once enjoyable 5.5 hour drive between Seattle and Bend, OR turned into an 8+ hour nightmare with the arrival of our first baby. On one of these nightmare road trips to visit family, we decided that we needed to find a better option for making this trip a viable weekend excursion. This gave birth to the idea of purchasing a new family wagon- the Bonanza. The A-36 Bonanza fit our mission profile perfectly with 6 seats, 1 engine, and enough capacity to haul enough baby support equipment for weekend excursions, plus reduce the trip time to less than 1.5hrs each direction.

Our love of aviation is what brought us together and we love sharing it with our children, and friends. We hope this blog will help new families adjust to being flying families and provide insight on what to expect. Herein we’ll share the lessons we’ve learned, family travel tips to various destinations, and showcase our favorite activities of our travels.

Since we are based in the PNW (Pacific Northwest) most of our travels are within a 3-5 hour range of base. We are always on the lookout for new destinations that are family friendly.

It’s time for 2024! New post have been updated and Go General Aviation will be too.
